Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is in eastern Rwanda. It is the only savannah park in the country where game viewing takes place. Covering 2,500 square kilometers, the park includes open savanna plains, lakes, wetlands, and rivers. It is home to many animals: buffaloes, elephants, monkeys, hippos, giraffes, zebras, leopards, lions, and various antelope species.

Besides game viewing via 4x4 safari vehicles, Akagera National Park offers boat trips on Lake Ihema. Here, visitors can encounter various species of aquatic animals and birds. Lake Ihema is renowned as one of East Africa's premier aquatic ecosystems. It is home to a thriving population of hippos, crocodiles, and a diverse array of birdlife. During the boat excursion, you may see playful hippos surfacing, crocodiles basking, and a variety of vibrant birds, including the pied kingfisher and the majestic African eagle.
