It begins with an eight-day trek in the Rwenzori Mountains, taking you through diverse vegetation zones, rugged peaks, glaciers, and alpine scenery.

After the hike, you travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park to explore the Kasenyi Plains on a game drive, with opportunities to encounter diverse wildlife and bird species.

The safari proceeds to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking, offering an unforgettable encounter with endangered mountain gorillas in the rainforest.

From the Rwenzori Mountains to Queen Elizabeth’s savannah and Bwindi’s rainforest, this safari showcases Uganda’s diverse landscapes and natural beauty.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport and Transfer to the Lodge

Upon arrival in Uganda, your assigned guide welcomes you and transfers you to your reserved lodge in Entebbe for a relaxing evening and overnight stay.

Day 2: Travel to Kasese Town

After breakfast, you travel to Kasese Town in western Uganda, passing through towns, forests, plantations, and scenic countryside.

You make a few stopovers at selected points before continuing to Kasese. Upon arrival, you check in to your booked accommodation and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Drive time from Entebbe to Kasese: approximately 8 hours.

Day 3: Hike to Sine Hut at 2,596 Metres

In the early morning, you drive to the park gate for a briefing before starting the hike.

After the briefing, you begin the trek through the Montane Forest Zone, home to a variety of birds and primates, including blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys.

Along the trail, you encounter diverse vegetation, including bamboo, forest trees, shrubs, fungi, and flowers.

You end the day’s hike at Sine Hut at 2,596 metres, where you spend the night. The route involves a steady ascent of approximately 1,146 metres.

Day 4: Hike to Mutinda Camp at 3,582 Metres

At 8:30 a.m., you resume the trek through the steep Bamboo-Mimulopsis Zone. During the wet season, this section can be muddy and slippery, making the hike more challenging.

You ascend through the Heather-Rapanea Zone to Kalalama Camp, gaining approximately 551 metres over 1.8 kilometres.

After a short rest, you continue to Mutinda Camp, passing ridgetops, streams, waterfalls, and valleys lined with giant heathers.

At Mutinda Camp, you can choose to hike to Mutinda Lookout at 3,925 metres for views of Kasese Town, Lake George, and the Rwenzori ranges. The climb also helps with acclimatisation for higher elevations.

You spend the night at Mutinda Camp, 3,582 metres above sea level.

Day 5: Hike to Bugata Camp at 4,100 Metres

Today, you hike to Bugata Camp at 4,100 metres. The trail can be muddy, especially during the rainy season.

You cross Mutinda Valley, passing tussock grass, flowers, and giant lobelias before ascending steeply to Namusangi Valley at 3,840 metres.

The route through Namusangi Valley features several ascents and descents before reaching Bugata Camp.

Day 6: Trek to Hunwick’s Camp via the Bamwanjarra Route at 3,974 Metres

You trek from Bugata Camp to Hunwick’s Camp via the Bamwanjarra Route, which offers views of the Rwenzori’s major peaks, especially in clear weather.

Along the route, a shelter at 4,450 metres provides protection during bad weather. The trail then descends into a valley, passing bogs and dense stands of lobelia, groundsel, and other alpine vegetation.

The area also provides opportunities to see the Malachite Sunbird. The final section to Hunwick’s Camp includes steep terrain and a steady ascent over a ridge.

Day 7: Hike to Margherita Camp at 4,485 Metres

Today, you trek from Hunwick’s Camp to Margherita Camp at 4,485 metres. The route descends into the Lake Kitendara Valley, known for its deep waters, lush vegetation, and spectacular mountain scenery.

From the valley, you ascend along the Scott Elliott Path to Margherita Camp, nestled among large boulders that provide protection from strong winds.

Day 8: Hike to Margherita Peak at 5,109 Metres

Today is summit day as you hike to Margherita Peak at 5,109 metres. You begin the climb at 2:30 a.m. to reach the summit early and avoid worsening weather conditions.

After reaching the summit, you descend to Hunwick’s Camp at 3,874 metres for rest and an overnight stay.

Day 9: Trek to Kiharo Camp at 3,430 Metres

You trek from Hunwick’s Camp to Kiharo Camp, ascending towards McConnell’s Prong for views of Scott Elliott’s Pass and the peaks of Margherita, Mount Speke, and Mount Baker.

The route continues beneath Weismann’s Peak to the confluence of the Nyamwamba River. At Oliver’s Pass, you can choose to hike to Weismann’s Peak at 4,620 metres.

After crossing the river, you walk along the valley to Kiharo Camp, passing a ridge of rocks deposited by slow-moving glaciers.

Day 10: Trek to the Gate and Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You rise early and trek from Kiharo Camp to the park gate, completing the eight-day Rwenzori hiking expedition. The trail descends through the Nyamwamba Valley, with views of waterfalls, moss-covered rocks, deep valleys, and forests.

The trek to the gate takes approximately 5–8 hours and covers about 18.8 kilometres. At the gate, you meet your guide, who transfers you to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you check in to your lodge and relax.

Day 11: Morning Game Drive and Travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You begin the day with a morning game drive across the Kasenyi Plains in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The plains offer opportunities to see diverse wildlife and bird species.

After the game drive, you travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking. Along the way, you enjoy scenic views of southwestern Uganda’s rolling hills and terraced landscapes.

Day 12: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

At 7:30 a.m., you drive for about 10 minutes to the gorilla trekking centre for a briefing, where experienced park rangers provide guidelines and safety instructions for the trek.

After the briefing, you trek through steep forested slopes in search of a habituated gorilla family. Once located, you spend up to one hour observing and photographing the gorillas.

After the gorilla trekking experience, you return to the lodge for relaxation and an overnight stay.

Day 13: Transfer to Entebbe Airport for Your Departure Flight

You begin the 9–10-hour journey to Entebbe Airport early in the morning and enjoy scenic views of southwestern and western Uganda along the way.

You make several stopovers along the way for lunch, washroom breaks, and a visit to the Equator Monument in Kayabwe, where you take photos and enjoy demonstrations about the Equator.
