Overview
This 6-day safari explores two of Rwanda’s premier destinations, combining wildlife viewing in Akagera National Park with gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park.
In addition to wildlife, it includes a guided tour of Kigali, visiting key attractions such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial and local marketplaces to explore the city’s history, culture, and vibrant daily life.
The safari also features a cultural experience at Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village in Kinigi, Musanze, where you discover local traditions, interact with the community, and learn about Rwandan culture and way of life.

Itinerary
We assume you arrive at Kigali International Airport early in the morning or in Rwanda the previous day.
Your assigned company guide picks you up from your hotel or the airport, and you embark on a two-hour journey to Akagera National Park.
Along the way, enjoy breathtaking scenery characterized by rolling hills, scenic valleys, and picturesque countryside.
Upon arrival at the park, you begin an evening game drive, exploring the savannah in search of wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and a variety of bird species.
Early in the morning, you enjoy a game drive through Akagera National Park’s open savannah, encountering diverse wildlife including giraffes, zebras, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and a variety of bird species.
In the afternoon, you enjoy a shared boat excursion on Lake Ihema, offering excellent views of wildlife in and around the lake.
The lake is home to large populations of hippos and crocodiles, which you can observe from the boat. You may also spot birds such as the pied kingfisher and African fish eagle, among many others.

After breakfast, you embark on a three-hour drive to Kigali, where you visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to gain insight into Rwanda’s history and the 1994 Genocide.
You also visit other key attractions, including Kandt House, Camp Kigali, local markets, and craft centers, offering a glimpse into Kigali’s history, culture, and vibrant daily life.

After breakfast, you leave Kigali and embark on a two-hour journey to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda’s Northern Province.
Upon arrival, you visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village in Kinigi, where you experience Rwandan culture through traditional dances, music, storytelling, and interactions with the local community.

After breakfast, you drive to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing, where park rangers provide guidelines and safety procedures for the trek.
After the briefing, you trek through Volcanoes National Park in search of mountain gorillas, spending one hour observing and photographing them once located.
After the trek, you return to the lodge to relax for the rest of the day.
After gorilla trekking, you can enjoy any of these optional activities at an extra cost, including biking, cycling, and guided community walks around Musanze and the Virunga foothills.
