Kibale Forest National Park is a prominent location for tracking chimpanzees in Uganda. The park is home to more than 1500 chimpanzees, and this significant number offers higher chances of encountering these primates during guided tracking excursions.

Besides chimpanzees, Kibale Forest National Park is also home to several species of primates, birds, and butterflies. The park, therefore, supports other activities such as nature walks and bird watching in addition to chimpanzee tracking and habituation.

Kibale Forest National Park regulates chimpanzee tracking for conservation purposes, offering two daily sessions: morning and afternoon. Regardless of the session you opt for, there’s a 95% chance that you will be able to see the chimpanzees.

Besides chimpanzee tracking and habituation, Kibale Forest National Park offers a variety of activities both within the park and in its environs. The activities include the following:

The park is home to over 370 avian species, including the rare green-breasted pitta. It offers an avenue for birders to spot several birds through guided walks in the different ecosystems of the forest.

Kibale Forest National Park offers guided nature walks along its extensive trails, allowing visitors to explore its unique flora and fauna. During these walks, you may encounter a variety of bird species, butterflies, and common primates.

3. Exploring Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary

The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is an ecotourism site near Kibale Forest National Park. The sanctuary, managed by the local community, boasts impressive biodiversity, offering visitors the chance to observe diverse primates, birds, and plant species.

Visitors can explore the sanctuary through well-established boardwalks and trails on a guided walk lasting 2–3 hours. During the walk, participants can encounter various bird species and primates while enjoying the breathtaking lush scenery.

4. Crater Lake Exploration

The region surrounding Kibale Forest National Park has numerous crater lakes, which provide spectacular views and serene points for leisure, photography, and moderate hiking.

5. Community engagement

Besides the natural attractions, the park's surroundings are home to the Batooro, whom visitors can engage with to learn about their traditions and experience their ways of life.
