4 day Uganda gorilla adventure and wildlife expedition
Overview

This four-day short safari tour takes you to the west and southwest of Uganda to fully engage in the exhilarating experience of wildlife viewing and trekking mountain gorillas in the dense forest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

It is perfectly suited for anyone with limited holiday schedules and those attending international conferences, workshops, or business trips to Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania who also wish to see mountain gorillas and explore wildlife habitats.

Besides tracking mountain gorillas, this tour also includes visiting Lake Mburo National Park for wildlife viewing experiences. Given the park's strategic location along the main highway connecting Kampala with Western and Southwestern Uganda, it is ideal for a detour to explore wildlife before proceeding to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Despite being the smallest savannah park in Uganda, Lake Mburo National Park is home to 350 avian species and a wide variety of wildlife, including buffaloes, zebras, hippos, antelopes (reedbucks, elands, topis, Defassa waterbucks, and impalas), and relocated giraffes.

Additionally, the tour involves lengthy travel to and from Bwindi, traversing several regions that have incredibly beautiful scenery.

Quick Safari Notes
  • The safari begins and ends in Entebbe at the airport or in town and involves pick-up and drop-off.
  • It is a fully guided tour, with a professional and experienced Tour Guide accompanying you for the entire duration of the safari.
  • It involves many captivating activities such as game drives, bird watching, gorilla trekking, and general sightseeing.
  • It is a day-by-day fixed program and payment for services such as accommodation and some activities are paid upfront. Any abrupt or late changes are subject to availability and may attract additional charges.
  • It involves trekking for about 2-5 hours through the steep forest of Bwindi in search of gorillas. Travelers, therefore, should be physically fit to conduct this moderately demanding activity.
  • The safari is suitable for all categories of people, such as large groups, couples, families with kids, youths, and solo travelers. However, gorilla tracking is allowed for persons aged 16 years and above.
  • It features accommodation types that provide budget and midrange comfort levels. These accommodations include guest houses, cottages, and tented tents, all providing clean, spacious, and moderate lodging.
  • It involves road transport in a 4x4 Toyota Hiace van to connect to various destinations. The safari van has a pop-up roof for wildlife viewing.
Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Lake Mburo National Park

The company guide will pick you up from Entebbe or Kampala early in the morning and take you on a 6-hour drive to Lake Mburo National Park. You will have a stopover at the Equator monument in Kayabwe to take photos and enjoy experiments that illustrate how the gravitational pull at the Equator varies from that at other latitudes. The experiments show how water swirls in opposite directions on either side of the Equator line.

You will embark on a walking safari adventure through the park upon arrival. Lake Mburo National Park is the only protected area in Uganda that offers a guided walking safari. During the 3-hour nature walk, you will encounter several animals and bird species. On the walking safari, you can see antelopes (impalas, waterbucks, topis, elands, oribis, and bushbucks), giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, and other animals up close.

Following a successful walking safari, you will return to the lodge for your relaxation and overnight stay.

Meal Plan: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Game drive & travel to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, you will take a final drive through the park to encounter more animals before heading to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. As you drive through the park, you might see a wide variety of animals, including zebras, warthogs, buffaloes, and many species of antelope, such as impalas, topis, and elands.

As you travel, you will make a few stopovers at roadside markets to taste the organic fruits grown in Uganda, observe and learn about the daily activities of various communities, and engage with the locals.

Upon arrival, you will have a relaxing evening at the reserved accommodation near the Bwindi forest.

Drive time from Lake Mburo National Park to Bwindi is about 4-5 hours.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Following an early breakfast, you will shortly drive to the collection center for the briefing exercise that begins at 8:00 a.m. The experienced park rangers conduct the briefing sessions with the express intent of providing the tracking participants with trekking guidelines and procedures. Following the briefing exercise, a specific habituated gorilla family will be assigned to you, with the other 7 participants, to embark on an exciting trekking expedition through steep and heavily forested slopes until you eventually locate the gorillas within the dense forest.

Once you find the gorillas, you will have one hour to spend with them, during which time you can take photos and watch them go about their daily lives.

After the gorilla trekking experience, you will return to the lodge for relaxation and an overnight stay.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
